The Dallas Mavericks may have lost the 2024 NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics, but that has only encouraged them to go all-in on their current lineup.
Dallas has the talent in Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving to compete with anyone, but they were able to entice Klay Thompson away from the Golden State Warriors.
The Mavericks completed a sign-and-trade for the sharpshooting guard, and he will now provide much more consistent floor spacing alongside Doncic and Irving.
Doncic received increased defensive attention during the playoffs as the rest of the Mavericks lineup struggled to consistently hit open 3-pointers.
That should be less of an issue for the Mavericks now that Thompson is on board.
Gilbert Arenas is optimistic about Dallas this season and discussed how Thompson can improve Doncic's game on the Gils Arena Show.
"If you was averaging that many assists with what you had, and now you have a guy who's a catch-and-shoot," Arenas lamented.
"Some of your assistance will come effortlessly this time. You should be averaging a triple-double. He will most likely be the top MVP candidate."
