Shaquille O'Neal slams 76ers for handing star $170 million

Ben Simmons, the Philadelphia 76ers' No. 1 choice, has been criticized for over a decade.

NBA veteran Shaquille O'Neal is openly hostile toward modern players, especially three-time Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert.

When Complex asked O'Neal to select his W.O.A.T., he quickly named Gobert and criticized the ex-Sixers guard.

"You know why Ben Simmons is another bum? I'll explain why. Show me 250 if you sign a 250 contract "O'Neal.

"There's a reason why I walk funny and why I can't turn my neck because I played for my 120, so you got guys like him that [expletive] the system over there making all this money and they can't [expletive] play, so I don't respect guys like that."

O'Neal exaggerated Simmons' salary, but the Sixers gave him a five-year, $170 million maximum agreement in 2019.

He will earn $40 million with the Brooklyn Nets this season. "You know every time I make these comments people think I'm hating, but these are facts," he said.

"You got teachers, you got firefighters, you got doctors who have real jobs and don't get paid [expletive]."

Simmons can prove the many naysayers wrong at 28, but the chances are against him.
